DocEng 2007 will be held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The city of Winnipeg is situated near the longitudinal centre of Canada, and ever since its early days as a centre for the fur trade, the city has enjoyed excellent communications with the rest of the country and also with the USA. One may reach the city by a wide variety of means, and we describe these in decreasing order of their degree of adventure and pioneering spirit. The most adventurous
Hiking (walking).
The truly adventurous may wish to exercise their pioneer sprit to
the fullest and follow the Trans-Canada hiking trail, described
here
By any of these three methods, the trip from Toronto to Winnipeg can probably be achieved quite comfortably within a month or so. Slightly less adventurous.
Bus.
It is possible to travel to Winnipeg by Bus (North American for what the
British call coach). You can find all you could ever need to know
here
These two approaches would require no more than 36 hours to travel from Toronto to Winnipeg. Actually, the train trip can be very enjoyable if one has the time and money to use the Via Rail Silver and Blue Class on the Canadian, from either Toronto or Vancouver to Winnipeg. Downright dull and sedentary.
If none of the above possibilities appeal to you, you can always fly into
Winnipeg international airport which
is well very served
by flights from across North America.
From other US centres, connections can either be made through these US cities,
or through such Canadian gateways as Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary etc.
Passports and VisasPlease check carefully the visa and passport requirements applicable to your nationality and country of origin. US citizens should note recent changes in their passport requirements for travel to/from Canada |
