DocEng 2007 Accommodation
DocEng 2007 delegates will be responsible for making their own hotel reservations. There will not be a specific conference hotel. Be warned that Winnipeg is a popular holiday destination, especially in August, and please book early to avoid difficulties later on. The following is a list of some suggested hotels, but there are many others to be found on the various travel websites and on the Province of Manitoba site in the sidebar.
The University of Manitoba (not to be confused with the University of Winnipeg) is located some 10 km south of downtown Winnipeg. Many of Winnipeg's hotels are located in downtown Winnipeg, and we have concentrated on these. We would expect that most delegates will prefer to be in the city centre, where most of the shops and restaurants, and many of the tourist attractions, such as The Forks Market, the Centennial Concert Hall and Theatre Centre, the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature, the Children's Museum, the Winnipeg Art Gallery etc. are to be found. There is a frequent city bus service between the University and downtown, and in addition a special conference bus service will be provided between the city centre and the conference site coinciding with the sessions.
We have also given some suggestions for hotels closer to the University. However, be warned that while somewhat cheaper, these hotels may not be on a bus route and may require a walk of some 20-30 minutes to reach the conference site.
The prices quoted are an estimate of what you can expect to pay. Taxes will be extra. Prices are in Canadian dollars.
